Sitting Bull Middle School Classroom Addition Apple Valley Unified School District
The project was constructed concurrently with the elementary school classroom addition, providing the District with further savings. The scope of work included construction of three new wood framed buildings, housing eight classrooms, storage, utility rooms, and a restroom facility. The buildings complete the quadrangle of the existing courtyard and provide a secured enclosure to the remaining campus.
This 1,000 student middle school is a combination of permanent masonry/wood structures and 17 modular classrooms on permanent foundations. The project shares common parking, playground areas, and site utilities with the adjacent elementary school campus. Shared infrastructure and common areas allows for more of the District’s budget to be utilized for teaching spaces. Construction of both the elementary school and middle school campuses concurrently has also resulted in additional cost savings to the District. As the District found additional funding, WLC was able to phase in the gymnasium/MPR, locker, and kitchen facility into the end of the campus build out.
